Sharks!

My favourite shark is the lemon shark!

Here are some cool lemon shark facts:

  1. Lemon sharks get their name from their tan coloured skin that makes them look yellowey like a lil lemon :3
  2. Lemon sharks are extremely flexible, with young lemon sharks being able to fit their tales in their mouths! (they are VERY silly)
  3. Lemon sharks are cannibals and know to eat their children.

Megalodon

Megalodons are an extinct (they became extinct 3.6 million years ago) species of shark but were believed to be one of the largest and most dangerous species of all time. It is estimated that they were a grew up to a maximum of 25 metres long ( 80ft).

But why did they go extinct?

It is estimated that Megalodons went extinct because of:

  • severe global cooling.
  • a loss of prey.
  • increased competition from new predators like great white sharks and orcas.

Megalodon facts:

  • Megalodon teeth can be up to 18 cm (7 inches) long, designed for cutting through bone. Their diet consisted of whales, seals, and other marine mammals, leaving distinctive bite marks on fossilized bones.
  • Because sharks are cartilaginous (have skeletons of cartilage, not bone), the fossil record is almost exclusively teeth and a few vertebrae, making their exact appearance still a subject of scientific debate.
