Overview

Great white sharks (Carcharodon carcharias) are big silly shark guys, often people are extremely scared of sharks especially great whites, however Since 1580 there's only been about 60 fatal great white attacks. Great whites tend to hang out in big oceans like the pacific and can grow all the way up to (at most) a large number which is: 21 feet long! (that's about 6.5 metres)

Great white sharks are very old. I mean they were around at least 8 million years ago, thats 8,000,000 six zeros :0 . They are rather indecisive and live in both shallow and deep waters, they dive up to 4,600 metres deep (very deep).

Diet

Pups and adults eat a bit differently.

• sting rays
• squids
• crustaceans (crabs, crayfish, stuff with shells

• Aldults eat:
• seals
• sea lions
• dolphins
• sea turtles
• sea birds

Habitat

Great white sharks inhabit every ocean: atlantic, arctic, indian, southern and pacific.

However the best places to spot great white sharks are near seal colonies in temperate coastal areas, mostly the Neptune Islands (Australia), Gansbaai (South Africa), and the Farallon Islands (California), best around May and October.

Children

Called pups, great white shark children are born live and begin life at 4-6 feet long in litters ranging of 2 to 17 pups.

Mothers show no parental care and either leave the pups independant from birth or eat them.

Great white pups are often born in warm, shallow coastal subtropical waters in places such as :

• Malibu (USA)
• Sicily (Italy)

• Females:
• Average 15-16 feet (4.6-4.9 m) in length.
• weigh 1,000-1,900 kg (2,200-4,200 lb)
• Males:
• Average 11-13 feet (3.4-4.0 m) in length.
• weigh 680-1,000 kg (1,500-2,200 lb).
• Maximum:
• The longest measured Great white shark was about 6.02 meters (19.8 feet) in length.
• While often debated, some documented individuals have weighed over 2,270 kg (5,000 lbs).

Overall the average life span is: 70-73 years at a maximum. For speed overall : 3-5 km/h (2-3 mph), but can accelerate to top speeds of over 40-50 km/h (25-35 mph) during hunting bursts.
